The NDSM wharf is the perfect example on how creative industry can stimulate the development of an entire former abandoned area and the re-use of old and complex buildings as well as the development of new buildings with very different functions.
The NDSM wharf was one of those abandoned former harbour areas which nobody knew about and which didn't have any connections with the city network. After the creative industry discovered it, the potentials of this area started to be unleashed and an organic urban transformation of this part of Amsterdam began.
Inspiring places like the Red Bull Headquarters, the Greenpeace Headquarters or the Pernod-Ricard Headquarters will make you help you feel the innovative and entrepeneur spirit of these streets. The place where nobody dared to come a couple of years ago, is now the most creative hotspot of Amsterdam with hundreds of artists and creative entrepreneurs, hip cafés and restaurants, hotels, offices and shops are shaping an inspiring area where the artist may feel like at home.
In this tour you will get into this experience with one of the pioneers architects who actively helped in these architecture developments, your guide, Bjorn van Rheenen, who has set his architectural studio inside the NDSM building.
