Cape Town overview

Cape Town

We offer Cape Town architecture tours guided by local architects and open visits to architecture studios.

Cape Town is today's most visited city in Africa, with a good infrastructure and weather it welcomes lots of tourists. However, this might not be the main reason for most architects to go there. The city is, itself, an urban planning exercise where modern architects have to rearrange a city that for many years was segregated by the apartheid urban planning ideas.

Several colonial patterns of urban planning can be found in the city, the Cape Dutch style combines architectural traditions from Germany, The Netherlands, France and Indonesia. Cape Town’s most popular highlights are the distinctive Cape Malay Bo-Kaap, the National Botanical Garden which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the St Andrews Square and St Georges Cathedral, as well tourist never miss the chance to take a walk to Table mountain and visit Cape Town’s beautiful beaches.

Resourcefulness of every kind of material available has driven Cape Town architecture and South-African design. Reinventing is a common theme in South Africa, with its architecture and design along with the essence of contemporary urban life is all represented by Cape Town and its architecture.
