Chicago overview

Chicago

We offer Chicago architecture tours guided by local architects and open visits to architecture studios.

Chicago represents one of the world’s most important cities when it comes to architecture. Where opportunities flourished after the Great Fire in 1871 and where many famous architects explored the skyscraper, a radical new building concept then. All the way from Le Baron Jenney, L. Sullivan, F. LLoyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe to Golgberg, Studio Gang or Pelli wait after any corner of the city, just have to look for it.

In the suburb of Oak Park there are the most representative houses where Wright perfected his signature, the Prairie Style architecture. Hyde Park, Millennium Park, Frank Gehry’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion or the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower or Marina city are examples of Chicago’s architecture shaping the city’s vibe and skyline.

The capital city of the state of Illinois become the fastest growing city in the world in the 19th century and masters like Mies van der Rohe or Frank Lloyd Wright played a key role in its global reach. The Illinois Institute of Technology with the Crown Hall as the main highlight is one of Mies’ most significant projects and Wright’s Robie House had become a modern architecture classic studied in all architecture schools.
