Madrid overview

Madrid

We offer Madrid architecture tours guided by local architects and open visits to architecture studios.

The capital city of Spain and third largest city in the European Union has an architecture heritage full of contrasts. Imperial style institutional buildings are all around the city and their wide streets lead to narrow tight spaces in neighbourhoods like “La Latina”, spots of social activity where places like the San Miguel market concentrate the after-work city life.

The Paseo del Prado is the main cultural boulevard with museums and gardens such as the Buen Retiro Park -a huge green lung for the city and one of the favourite haunts for Madrid’s locals. Stunning and modern structures like the Caixa Forum by Herzog & de Meuron contrast with Madrid’s classical architecture with a Castilian Baroque style, in the Palacio Real or the Palace of El Escorial.

In the 20th century, the Palacio de Cibeles represented the imperial Madrid while the Gran Via and the Torre Picasso shape the modern Madrid. The arrival of the high speed train to the city centre, transformed Atocha station, thanks toRafael Moneo who was in charge of Museum del Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisz museum addition. Full of culture and art, the city hosted masters who left their inheritance all over this beautiful city.
